My early interest in visual art and design led me to the study (B. Arch, McGill) and practice of Architecture. In turn, architecture attuned me the creation of abstract shapes that appealed to our aesthetic perceptions of the world around us. I grew up in Europe and the European modernism was an early influence in both my art and design.
I continued to expand my artistic skill through further studies. Exploring the theory and interaction of colour with Guido Molinari at Concordia University, a 3-year program in etching and printmaking under Roslyn Swartzman at Saidye Bronfman Centre Art School, numerous courses at Visual Arts Center in Westmount, and many workshops with known Quebec artists. I have always been inspired by abstract expressionism and colour field painting, and, in particular Richard Diebenkorn.
I have explored different mediums in a constant search to express emotion as well as the perception and experience of our surroundings, man-made constructions such as buildings and facades – as well nature and its landforms, in particular from a birds eye view.
The process of collagraph printmaking captivated me more than 40 years ago mainly due its ability to render textures, the possibility of different colour schemes and the element of chance and happy accidents. My body of work “World from Above” from that period is a geometric abstraction of landscape. Subsequently, I worked mostly in mixed media and collage and reinterpreted some of the same themes.
Currently I am working predominantly with oil stick paint on mylar. I enjoy the way colour works on the transparent substrate as well as the ability to paint, draw, and create textural effects.
I am a member of an art collective -Women’s Art Studio of Montreal and Arts Sutton.
I received a Certificate of Excellence in the 2019 Annual exhibition of the Women’s Art Studio of Montreal held at Centre d’Art E.K. Voland Gallery.
